Does Jesus care about the last, the lost, and the least? The CrossOver Community Church of the Nazarene thinks so. Meeting in the basement of public housing apartments in Turffontein, a low-income neighborhood of Johannesburg (South Africa), Pastor Pelham Lessing and his wife, Sharon, lead this fledgling congregation. Amy and I enjoyed worshiping there on Sunday morning and were impressed how many young children flock to church. Most Sundays they receive a square meal besides singing to the lively music and hearing the Word of God, a message of hope.

Prayer: Ask God to bless the launch in February of a Child Development Center to be hosted by CrossOver with support from Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM).

Quote from Amy’s reading: “In the midst of our adversity, I began to see the church in a different light. It was not a show or just a place of employment – it was full of friends and encouragers. It was family – a group of loving, imperfect folks who have remained to this day – family.” – Chonda Pierce, in Second Row, Piano Side (Beacon Hill, 1996), p. 67

Greg’s most recent blog: If the church could take a selfie considers what the church should look like in relation to the Triune God.
